Full-Scale Monitoring

Our full-scale monitoring services provide assurance that your as-built buildings, bridges, and other structures are consistently meeting their original performance and design requirements in the real-world environment.

Long-Term Assessment

We commit to continuous, months- or years-long monitoring to capture significant wind events essential for proper performance evaluation. This as-built analysis is the definitive method for verifying structural behaviour under real wind conditions.

Remote Monitoring

We use custom monitoring equipment to remotely monitor the structure following installation. Our instruments reliably record data from key sensors (accelerometers, strain gauges, anemometers) and automatically upload it for our expert analysis.

Key Testing Objectives

The primary objective of BLWTL’s full-scale monitoring programs is to verify that the structure’s as-built performance aligns with its original design predictions. By collecting continuous data on structural response during significant wind events, we confirm the structure is behaving as intended. This provides definitive evidence to prove the safety and compliance of a structure over its lifespan.

If the monitoring identifies performance gaps, the collected data becomes invaluable for informing targeted remedial actions. These measurements enable accurate sizing and tuning of supplemental devices, such as dampers, ensuring they are matched to the structure’s actual dynamic characteristics.

Related Services

We consult on the use of tuned damping systems for mitigating wind-induced motions. We have experience with damping systems in tall towers, chimneys, bridge cables, and more.

We estimate dynamic wind-induced displacements in the structure, providing the magnitude and frequency of responses for structural fatigue assessments.
